GOODBYE AND THANKYOU

Well this is something that has shocked me and I didn't expect and somehow seem to have missed in the news.

Anthony Barton Goble, artist, teacher and gallery director: born Newtown, Montgomeryshire 20 October 1943; Artist-in-Residence, Llanover Hall Art Centre, Cardiff 1979, Project Worker, then Tutor 1980-99, Gallery Director and Centre Assistant Director 1983-2007; married 1965 Janice Morgan (two sons, two daughters); died Llantrisant, Rhondda Cynon Taff 13 April 2007.

Tony Goble was an influential, charismatic and highly respected figure in the visual art world of Wales. Projecting a stylish image, with his red braces, wide-brimmed hat and long white beard, he was chair of prominent artist groups, an inspiring art teacher, a key figure at one of Cardiff's liveliest art centres and a shrewd champion of the visual arts. In addition, he was a Christian, family man and supportive friend. The imagery of his paintings was inextricably bound up with his life.

Tony was one of my favourite artists and his work reminded me of the paintings that I saw in New Orleans last September."Byzantine Birds" by Tony Goble
